Likely candidates for FKFPL relegation this season

The 2020-2021 FKF Kenyan Premier League season has been an entertaining one with newbies trumping over some of the old guards but it is the battle at the bottom that is shaping up to be an interesting one.

The bottom 4 comprises of Western Stima, Vihiga United, Mathare united and Zoo fc from position 15 to 18.

Western Stima and Vihiga have played 16 games each and sit on 12 and 11 points respectively. Mathare and Zoo who have both played 14 matches are on 9 and 8 points .

Out of the 4 sides, onle Vihiga was promoted last season with the other sides having been in the league for quite some time.

Mathare in particular has had the longest run of the 4 having been in the league since the 90s.

Western Stima.

Stima have struggled to collect points this season. Stima have regularly survived by collecting points in Kisumu but this seasons their fortunes may have turned.

Stima were also rocked with match fixing allegations that led to a total overhaul of the team with a huge chunk of players being let go and many others signed in January including a new head coach.

To add to that, the also lost long time sponsor, Kenya Power and are currently without one.

Vihiga United

The side has also struggled this season and failed to collect points where it matteres most.

The Vihiga County government which sponsored the side also cancelled their sposnsorhip meaning they remain without a sponsor.

Mathare United

The 2008 champions are having a season to forget. After starting the league late owing to the TV rights dispute, Mathare have failed to impress on the pitch.

Mathare have only won twice this season and lost staggering 9 times with head coach Salim Ali’s men failing to impress. Having played two games less, the are in a better position than their othe counterparts and will look to call on their pedigree for better results once the league resumes.

Zoo fc

The side, just like Mathare have failed to impress too after starting the season late due to the TV rights dispute.

Zoo have only won one match all season and don’t seem to have the capacity to compete this season.

Western Stima, Vihiga and Zoo are the most likely to be relegated. Mathare may just escape this time round
