Harambee Stars’s slim chances of qualifying for AFCON 2022 dissappeared after being held by Egypt in their group qualifying match.
Egypt were the first side to go ahead in the 1st minute of the game catching Harambee Stars players napping and unawares to totally alter the course of the game.
Harambee Stars however showed a strong showing in the 1st half with the midfield trio of Kenneth Muguna, Lawrence Juma and Teddy Akumu commanding most of the ball.
Egypt went into the break in the lead after a Masud Juma goal was ruled out fo a handball after Juma controlled the ball with his hand.
Stars came into the 2nd half stronger with the introduction of Duke Abuya whose pressing changed the game completely for Stars and their eforts were repaid in the 66th minute after Abdallah Hassan scored following a corner.
Stars’ gameplan was however destroyed late in the second half after Johnstone Omurwa was shown a red card for an off the ball incident. Stars could not anage to score with Olunga failing to convert several chances with the game ending all square.
The draw means Stars are out of contention for qualification to AFCON and will next face Togo for pride with both sides already eliminated.
